Having Cravings? Try this...

Have you ever tried to lose weight or eat healthier and found it really hard because your cravings were out of control?

This is something I’ve struggled with for sure.

Maybe you start the day off on the right foot, but find your cravings start to kick in mid-afternoon.

Or, maybe you ate PERFECTLY all day, but then can’t seem to stop thinking about your favorite snacks or treats later at night.

You might find that you try eating some “substitutions” (like low carb versions or a piece of fruit). When that substitution doesn’t make a difference, you move on to the next “substitution”.

This causes you to keep eating because nothing is satisfying your craving.

You might even give up on eating healthy or trying to lose weight because it’s just too hard.

Here are some reasons why this may be happening:

  • You’re not eating your foods in the right combination and it’s causing your blood sugars to be imbalanced.

  • You’re restricting yourself too much and may not be eating enough.

  • Your body is detoxing.

  • You are stressed or not sleeping well.

So, what can you do about this?

  1. Start the day off with a balanced breakfast that includes protein, healthy fats and a source of carbohydrates.

  2. Eat protein and healthy fats at each of your meals to keep yourself satiated.

  3. Make sure that you are eating enough and not skipping meals. If you find yourself hungry between meals or after you eat, that’s a sign that you’re not eating enough.

  4. It’s normal to have some cravings when you change the way you eat. To combat this, build foods that that are healthy and satisfying into your meals so you don’t feel so restricted. You can find healthier versions of your fav foods too.

  5. It’s not always just about the food. We tend to crave more foods when we’re stressed or tired. Finding other ways to manage your stress and implementing a good bed time routine so you’re getting good quality sleep can make a huge difference.

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you are giving into your cravings. It’s something we all experience. I encourage you to implement these strategies and see if you notice a difference. Let me know how it goes!
