If you start taking care of yourself now, it can improve your chances of living a longer, healthier

It's hard to believe that November is already hear and Halloween is over. Unfortunately, my Halloween plans didn't work out as planned because I had to fly out to Chicago to say goodbye to a very special lady this week...my grandma. She was an amazing woman, and lived a very long and healthy life. She was 90 when she passed away. I can only hope to be as healthy and live as long as she did. My grandma always took really good care of herself, hardly had any health problems, and rarely spent any time in the hospital. It wasn't until a few weeks ago, when she fell and broke her hip, that her health problems started. We celebrated her 90th birthday party a couple months ago, and I will never forget how cute it was to watch her play bags. There are many things that she did right and can be an example to all of us:

  • She, even as a 90 year old, made sure to go out and get some type of exercise every day. She would take a daily walk, and, when she was a little bit younger, would even do workout videos.

  • I never saw her over eat.

  • She always took her time eating and really enjoyed her food.

  • I never saw her eat processed foods. She would make home cooked meals for all of her meals, and, most of the time, would still even cook for all 9 of her kids! They were well balanced meals too. She would usually include a salad, a vegetable, meat, and some type of starch. And, of course, dessert! My grandma also never deprived herself.

  • She stayed up on all of the new nutritional information, which my Mom always thought was so funny and say, "Grandma was born in the wrong generation." My grandma always knew about all of the newest super foods and any other food that could help combat inflammation.

  • She was very strong and kept a positive outlook on life.

She always took good care of herself, and, as a result, she live a very long and healthy life. She also had beautiful skin and hair, and always maintained her weight, even on her very tiny frame. This is proof that it is important to always take care of yourself, and, if you start now, it can have a significant impact on your health in the future. And, you really just have to make a few simple lifestyle changes. My top recommendations are:

  • Make sure you do some type of physical activity daily. It can be as simple as taking a 30 minute walk. Of course, you can always start small and then add in weight lifting, yoga, or even take up running.

  • Follow a clean diet and make most of your meals at home. Of course, it's fun to go out to eat every once in a while, but, when you cook most of your food at home, you have control of what you put in it.

  • Listen to your body. If there is a food that you don't thing agrees with you, don't eat it! If you think that there might be something that you shouldn't be eating, but aren't sure what it is, you can try an elimination diet or check out my seasonal detoxes, which are set up to help you discover any hidden food intolerances, by clicking here.

If you want to start a clean eating lifestyle, but aren't sure how or what it even means, I have a 4 week clean eating program that will help you do just that. (And this may be a good time to start if you feel that you've been indulging a little too much on Halloween candy!) You can find our more about my program by clicking here. Or, if you feel that you need some 1:1 support, you can sign up for a complementary Discovery Session with me by clicking here.
