See how easily you can grow your own food
Well, I started my detox on Monday, which I desperately needed since I had been going out to eat so much the last few weeks while I was in Vegas, and then with my parents and my friend's sister visiting. I could definitely tell that I had put on a few pounds, and just wasn't feeling that well. I'm feeling better now after being on the detox for a few days. If you are feeling bloated, tired, like you don't have any energy, foggy, are having difficulty losing weight, or if you ingest any of the following on a weekly basis - alcohol, soda, sugar, processed foods, fast food, non-organic meats, you may have built up toxins in your body, and it may be time to do a detox. I am offering my spring detox right now - either a 7 or 14 day Sugar Detox (or I have an even deeper cleanse that uses essential oil supplements - the Essential Reset Cleanse). If you are interested, you can read more about my cleanses here. Happy Earth Day (on Friday)! This year's theme is on reducing food loss and waste. I always seem to waste a lot of food, especially only cooking for one person. I've been trying to work on that though. Since I don't mind eating the same thing every day, I will usually pick one or two meals, and eat that for a whole week, and then choose different meals for the following week. With Earth Day coming up, this might be a good time to look at how much food you are wasting, and see if there's anything you can do about it. Some ways you can reduce your food waste are:
Make a grocery list. This is so important. I've always made a grocery list, probably because my Dad is super organized, so I learned from him, but it really helps. If I don't make a list, or if I forget to bring my list with me (which happens more than I'd like - luckily I have a good memory!), I find myself buying a lot of stuff that I don't need, which also ends up costing more. Do you make a list before you go to the store?
Don't buy as much food. This is another thing that will require some planning ahead. Once you plan your meals for the week, you can make your list. It is especially helpful if you aren't cooking for a lot of people. This is why I will eat the same thing for a whole week. It cuts down on the amount of food that I have to buy, costs less, and doesn't waste as much food. You can also cook some meals, and freeze some of the leftovers to eat at a later date.
Grow your own food. There is nothing better than fruits and vegetables picked fresh from your own garden. Plus, it saves so much money! I am terrible with plants, and tend to kill everything that I try to grow, so haven't really done this much in the past, but I recently bought a Tower Garden, which is self watering, so I won't have any trouble with that! You can see a picture of my Tower Garden below. This picture was taken right after I put it together with the seedlings, so the plants will get larger in a couple weeks!
So, what exactly is a Tower Garden? It is a vertical garden that uses aeroponic technology, which is process of growing plants in an air or mist environment rather than soil. Aeroponic systems use water, liquid nutrients and a soilless growing medium to quickly and efficiently grow more colorful, tastier, better smelling, and incredibly nutritious produce. Some of the benefits that the Tower Garden offers are:
You don't have to dig, water, or weed.
It uses 90% less space.
The plants grow up to 3 times faster.
It uses 98% less water.
It grows 30% more.
You can grow both a high number and large variety of vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers.
If you live in an area that gets cold during the winter, or if you don't have a place to put one outside, you can grow your garden inside with grow lights.
The Tower Garden basically takes care of itself.
It reduces the risk of pests and plant diseases.
It's grown without using herbicides and pesticides (like commercially grown produce is).
It's so much better for the environment - in so many ways!
So, why wouldn't you want to have one? I think the Tower Garden is one of the coolest things, and am so excited for my plants to grow!
