Tired of belly bloat?

Well, I'm back from Vegas. I was there for a Health Coaching conference last week, which was a really good experience. I learned a lot, had a great time, and met some really cool people. One thing I hate about traveling is that I often don't feel well because I'm not used to eating out very much. I always end up feeling bloated and weighed down. To avoid that, I had the hotel put a fridge in my room, and I brought my blender. I stopped at Whole Foods when I got there and picked up some ingredients to make smoothies for my breakfast and lunch, which made a huge difference. Up until a few years ago, I didn't only feel bloated when I was traveling, but all of the time! It seemed that there was nothing that I could eat and not feel bloated, and this had been going on for my whole life! This also caused me to feel tired, weighed down, and foggy. This also eventually led me to gain a lot of weight due to the inflammation it was causing. What about you? Do you suffer from any of those symptoms? Are you constantly bloated? Or, maybe you suffer from other digestive problems...diarrhea, constipation, acid reflux, nausea/vomiting, gas, heartburn, abdominal pain...this stuff isn't normal. Well, it is "normal" because nowadays many people suffer from these symptoms on a daily basis, but you aren't supposed to feel like that. If you have these symptoms, it's very likely that there could be something else wrong, or, if nothing is wrong yet, it could be moving in that direction. Hippocrates said it best, "All disease begins in the gut." This is true. If your gut is not functioning properly, it eventually can lead to leaky gut (when food particles actually escape through small holes in your intestines and into your blood stream), which causes chronic inflammation in your body. If the leaky gut isn't healed, or your gut issues aren't resolved, the inflammation eventually can cause diseases such as Autoimmune Disease, Diabetes, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Alzheimer's, etc. Even if you don't have digestive issues, other symptoms such as asthma, sinus problems, acne, eczema, psoriasis, trouble concentrating, allergies, weight gain, swollen joints, irritability, difficulty sleeping, PMS, infertility, anxiety, etc. are other signs of inflammation. So, what can you do if you have any of these symptoms to prevent it from eventually leading to a chronic disease? It is important to get your gut functioning properly, which really is going to be a lifestyle change. Avoiding processed, toxic foods is the most important thing, but also avoiding other environmental toxins. So, let's say that you aren't ready or don't want to commit to doing a detox (I know it's not for everyone.), what can you do do get rid of your belly bloat?

  1. Take a probiotic. Most people will benefit from taking a probiotic as it puts good bacteria in your intestines that are needed to crowd out the bad bacteria.

  2. Take digestive enzymes. I personally take a digestive enzyme every time that I eat, and it has helped me significantly. If your digestive system isn't working properly, a digestive enzyme will help you break down your food properly so you are able to absorb the nutrients.

  3. Finally, while the probiotic and digestive enzymes are something you should take daily to help control and improve your digestion, if you are suffering from bloating, gas, indigestion, or any type of stomach discomfort, I HIGHLY recommend using essential oils to help reduce bloating, gas, and occasional indigestion. That is what has really helped me more than anything else, and, believe me, I have tried so many different things. A lot of the medications that are available for digestive problems, much like any other medication, can actually cause more harm than good, and contain synthetic ingredients that cause side effects. Therapeutic grade essential oils are all natural, safe, and effective. Although I feel better than I did years ago, I occasionally eat stuff I'm not supposed to, and this is the only thing that has worked for me.
